Charleston Job Corps Center hosts quarterly CRC Meeting-Feb. 19, 2016

The Charleston Job Corps Center (CJCC) operated by Horizons Youth Services, held its quarterly Community Relations Council (CRC) meeting on Friday, February 19, 2016 in the center gymnasium. Several members were on hand for presentations from the departments of Academics, Finance and Administrations, Human Resources and Social Development.

The meeting was called to order by Shanequa Lewis, Office Administration student from Pennsylvania. Lewis welcomed the guests and introduced office administration student, Thomas Banks who read the daily motivator. Tia Welch, Business Community Liaison introduced Laura McCullough, the new CRC president. Laura McCullough, Vice President, Workforce & Economic Development, BridgeValley Community Technical College announced, “I am pleased to serve as your president and look forward to working with you.”

Center Director, Willie Brown provided several center updates and covered the new Job Corps behavior policy initiated by the national director, Lenita Jacobs-Simmons. The new policies will ensure stricter guidelines for student conduct entering and attending Job Corps. In addition, Brown spoke about the on-board strength (OBS), the number of students on center and outcome measurement system (OMS), and the center’s performance. Tia Welch informed members of the National Groundhog Job Shadow Day success on Feb. 2, 2016, Congressional visit by U.S. Representative Alex Mooney, Feb. 18, 2016, National Job Corps Association (NJCA) STAR Program with center ranking at number 1 out of 128 centers and upcoming events such as the CJCC award honoree for the WV Civil Rights Day, Feb. 25, 2016 and the center wide Black History Program, February 25, 2016 at 2:30 p.m.

Job Corps is a no-cost education and career technical training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16-24 improve the quality of their lives through career technical and academic training. The Charleston Job Corps Center is overseen by the Philadelphia Regional Office of Job Corps and is operated by Horizons Youth Services.
