The Charleston Job Corps Center (CJCC) operating under Horizons Youth Services (HYS) provided assistance to the Kanawha County Public Library (KCPL) on October 23, 2015 in honor of Make a Difference Day. Students and staff helped unload the truck and set-up books and materials at the Charleston Civic Center for the annual WV Book Festival.

Students from the Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning trade under the direction of Ron Jenkins, Instructor were excited to participate with the Kanawha County Public Library and give back to the Charleston community through a day of service. Student volunteers include Sahiem Clybourn, Ty’Riek Davis, Kelvin Harvey-Crique, Detrik Johnson, Roland LaChance, Luis Maldonado, Tarique Marshall, Nathaniel Perry, Dionious Robinson, Troy Vick, Daequawn Woodfall and Wanye Wyche.

According to the website, www.usaweekend.com “Make a Difference Day is the most encompassing national day of helping others—a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors.” This is an opportunity for everyone to get involved and give back. The event takes place every fourth Saturday in October. This year the event will be officially observed on October 24, 2015. Millions of volunteers will have to opportunity to “make a difference” in their local communities and surrounding areas.

The WV Book Festival is scheduled for Oct. 23 and 24 and returns for the first time since 2012. This year expect to meet award winning author Jacqueline Woodson on Saturday Oct. 24, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. who wrote the memoir, “Brown Girl Dreaming”. Neil Gaiman and Jodi Picoult are among the featured authors as well. The festival has books and activities for all ages. You don’t want to miss it! A special thanks to Paula Ward, KCPL for the invitation to participate.
