Charleston Job Corps Center observes National Groundhog Job Shadow Day-Feb. 2, 2016

National Groundhog Job Shadow Day, Feb. 2, 2016 Audrey Liggins & WV Secretary of State, Natalie Tennant


The Charleston Job Corps Center (CJCC) operated by Horizons Youth Services (HYS), participated in National Groundhog Job Shadow Day on Tuesday, February 2, 2016. Leadership student’s job shadowed at the district office of U.S. Senator Joe Manchin III, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, CASCI, Charleston Police Department Community Service Division, WV Equal Employment Office, WV Career Transition Services, YWCA Sojourners Women’s & Family Shelter, Thomas Memorial Hospital, WV Secretary of State Office and WV State Legislature with Senator Chris Walters, Senator Sue Cline, Delegate Nancy Guthrie, Delegate Jill Upson, Delegate Mike Pushkin, Delegate Tim Manchin and Delegate Mike Caputo.

Student participants included Saquan Adams, Kenyatta Allen, Thomas Banks, Danielle Belt, Deon Brockenberry, Gregory DeWitt, Jaiquann Frazier, Cody Glover, Kaylin Hardy, Lawrence Hickman, Elesha Hueston, Audrey Liggins, Shanequa Lewis, Maricela Perez, Curtis Scales, Christopher Snodgrass, Samantha Sprouse, April Stokes, Tantinaia Taylor, Syria Thompson, Katia Timmons, Shane Tomey, Taekwon Walke and Isaiah Williams under the direction of Tia Welch, Business Community Liaison.

National Groundhog Job Shadow Day is a national campaign that gives young people a new perspective on their studies through hands-on learning and a one-day mentoring experience. Charleston Job Corps Center students look forward to this event and benefit by gaining valuable information, utilizing their trade skills, demonstrating leadership and employability skills, participating in business meetings, displaying professionalism and receiving professional mentoring. A special thanks to everyone that participated in this event.

Job Corps is a no-cost education and career technical training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16-24 improve the quality of their lives through career technical and academic training. The Charleston Job Corps Center is overseen by the Philadelphia Regional Office of Job Corps and is operated by Horizons Youth Services.
