The Charleston Job Corps Center (CJCC), operated by Horizons Youth Services, observed Women’s History Month on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 with a Lunch & Learn hosted by CEO, Dr. Michelle Foster, Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation. The event was coordinated by business community liaison, Tia Welch to provide student’s exposure to positive female role models in the community.

The young ladies arrived prepared with questions during the discussion to include, “What advice would you give young women to be successful?” Dr. Foster encouraged students to “Get your education, finish your training, participate in internships (paid and unpaid), volunteer and be committed.” Jakia Harvey asked, “What are you doing to stay an effective leader?” Dr. Foster informed the ladies that “continuous improvement is a core value”. Her response to the three things a person needs for success were “preparation, becoming a person of your word and developing a spirit of tenacity.” Additionally, topics addressed dealing with shyness, sacrifices and career pathways.
