Charleston Job Corps Center participates in KCS Superintendent’s Retreat-March 28, 2018

The Charleston Job Corps Center operated by Horizons Youth Services (HYS) was invited to attend the annual Kanawha County Schools (KCS), Superintendent’s Retreat, March 28, 2018 at the Edison Staff Development Center. Every year teachers, students and community leaders come together to strategize and collaborate on what is working and what needs improvement. Together we provide solutions for student achievement and success in Kanawha County Schools.

The day kicked off with welcome and introductions by Dr. Tom Williams, Deputy Superintendent following by Superintendent’s Presentation from Dr. Ron Duerring, Superintendent, Kanawha County Schools. Additional presentations included: Overview of Safety and Security in KCS and Overview of Virtual School. A robust panel discussion was moderated by KCS Director of Communications, Briana Warner before break-out sessions to discuss questions regarding school safety, virtual school, effects from the opioid epidemic in our schools and negative impacts of social media. Participants were asked to complete a survey for feedback of the day’s events. Lunch was provided and prepared by Carver CTE center ProStart students.
