She served as a peer counselor and as a member of Ladies with a Vision (recreation club) during her stay at Job Corps. Job Corps prepares youth 16-24 for careers, enlisting in the military, advanced training or college placement. Emily said, “it gave me the education, structure and employability skills to be successful. I had a lot of help with job search skills, resume writing and life skills such as how to search for housing, transportation (car) and more.” Emily will continue her studies on her own at BVCTC after completing Job Corps. She is still deciding whether to return to PA or relocate to WV. In closing, Emily says, “I feel like I have a support system for life. I know my life will improve through the education, training, and independent skills I learned at Job Corps, because I didn’t have those before.”

Emily enjoys writing poetry and songs. She enjoys hiking, exercising, drawing and being in nature. Her words of wisdom to Job Corps students and potential candidates is “Take advantage of everything Job Corps has to offer and be open to new opportunities in life.”

Congratulations Emily Luhrs!
