Charleston Job Corps CRC/CIC Joint Meeting-July 17, 2015

The Charleston Job Corps Center (CJCC) operating under Horizons Youth Services (HYS) held a joint meeting of the Community Relations and Center Industry Council on Friday, July 17, 2015, 12:00 noon at the Charleston Marriott Town Center.

Several members, staff, and guests were on hand to receive center updates and upcoming events by Willie Brown, Center Director. Brown shared information regarding center performance and the desire for more WV youth enrollment. He also discussed upcoming events, such as Impacting Futures…Changing Lives, Community Outreach Event, co-sponsored with WV Outreach and Admissions (August 1, 2015) and NJCA Commencement Day (August 21, 2015 at 2:30 p.m.) with guest speaker Rod Blackstone, Deputy Mayor, City of Charleston.

The center’s guest speaker was Tony DeMeo. DeMeo is a longtime coach and author. He retired as Head Coach of the University of Charleston (UC) after an extremely successful six year tenure. He arrived at UC in 2005 and promptly turned the program around on and off the field. DeMeo spoke to attendees regarding the importance of leadership, perseverance and attitude. He inspired attendees with personal stories, football illustrations and poems.

Charleston Job Corps Center would like to thank the members of the Community Relations and Center Industry Council for their support and partnership in helping change lives of youth. A special thanks to Brian McClellan, Event Manager and staff of the Charleston Marriott for service with a spirit of excellence.
