Charleston Job Corps Outreach and Admissions Counselor, Christina Hayslett, gives back in her community.

Due to COVID-19 Pandemic, the residents of the Huntington City Mission have not been permitted to leave the premises for any reason. Therefore, many have not had a haircut in at least four to five months. Christina Hayslett, OA Counselor for the Charleston Job Corps, decided to give back. Christina being aware of the renewing spirit a simple haircut can bring, thought it would be great to give hope in the midst of this pandemic.
She enlisted the help of her beautician, Ashley Parker, and coworker, Cassie Lawhon, CTS Specialist to sponsor the “Haircuts of Hope” event. Christina stated, “I want to give something to make them feel good during this period of hardship and a haircut makes you feel good inside and out.”
From start to finish, the trio gave haircuts to over 22 residents. In addition to haircuts, Locust Grove Baptist Church in Wayne County provided the residents a unique shopping experience. The Items were originally distributed during our summer outreach, were placed on tables, and allowed each resident to shop after their haircut. Christina says, “It was a great experience to spread some love as well as some information about Job Corps! The best part being, the employees remembered us from previous outreach efforts. This is our goal! Job Corps wants the city of Huntington, as well as our surrounding counties, and even our state, to know that Job Corps cares about our homeless and individuals from low-income homes. Charleston Job Corps is here to educate you, train you, and even give you a haircut.
