Charleston Job Corps Outreach and Admissions join outreach efforts with Haircuts of Hope

Charleston Outreach and Admissions team members start the week off with Haircuts of Hope. Christina Hayslett states, ” This is one of my favorite outreach efforts to date!” Christina joined by a good friend who is also a beautician, Ashley Parker, along with co-worker Cassie Lawhon, CTS Specialist in the Huntington area, went to the Huntington City Mission to spend the day giving free haircuts! From start to finish, they cut a little over 20 residents’ hair while on the site! This was a wonderful opportunity to provide this service to many who claimed that they couldn’t recall when they had last received a haircut. In addition to the haircuts, Locust Grove Baptist Church in Wayne County provided the residents with a unique shopping experience. Taking the same items  originally distributed in our summer drawstring bags. All items were placed on tables and allowed each resident to “shop” after their haircut! It was a great experience to spread some love as well as some information about Job Corps! The best part was that both the residents and staff remembered us from our other outreach efforts, which is exactly our goal, says Christina. “We want the city of Huntington, as well as our surrounding counties, and even our state, to know that Job Corps cares about people who are homeless and who come from low-income homes. We are here to educate you, train you, and even give you a haircut.”
