CJCC Student Success-Marquis Wilson

Marquis Wilson- 20 years old from Pittsburgh PA attends the Charleston Job Corps Center, Charleston WV under the operator Horizons Youth Services. He arrived in July 2011 with a High School Diploma and completed the Network Cabling Trade. Mr. Wilson has been accepted to the TCU Program at Gary Job Corps Center, San Marcos TX for advanced training in the Carman Machinist Program and will be transferring on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2012. After completing advanced training, he plans to work for CSX Railroad as a Carman Machinist. Marquis was a member of Dorm Leadership for Obama Dorm and participated in the Recreation Department assisting for the arts show and theme parties. Marquis mentioned that his aunt who passed away was instrumental in his motivation to continue his trade. When asked if there was someone or something that made a significant difference in his training at the center he mentioned “the staff they were pretty encouraging for me to stay.” He stated the residential advisors Ms. Tonya Maxwell and Berrinice Smith were helpful and that “whenever I had a lot of family problems back home they talked me through it and encouraged me to continue my stay.” Marquis did Work Based Learning at WVSU under the Communications Department working with lighting and sound to further develop his ability and skills for success. His words of wisdom to other students interested or attending Job Corps are “stay focused even though things may get hard here, look towards the future and you will succeed.”
