Cleveland Jobcorps Center 3rd Annual Toy Drive

Cleveland Jobcorps Center 3rd Annual Toy Drive

We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who so generously donated toys, gifts, and cash to the Cleveland Job Corps Center’s (CJCC) 3rd Annual Toy Drive. Your generosity made the event an overwhelming success; and we have all of you, and your wonderful contributions to thank! “It is an honor to be able to give back during the holiday season. Events like this allow our staff and students the op-portunity to model citizenship,” said CJCC Center Director, William Houston. Houston also commended the servitude of the students and staff at CJCC stating, “I am very proud of our CJCC family.”
Due to your generous donations, the CJCC Toy Drive was able to take in numerous gifts as well as more than $1,700 to provide toys to more than 190 children. In addition to re-ceiving toys, 41 children of CJCC student parents also received winter accessories, baby articles and toiletries. This year CJCC was also able to adopt two families, with a com-bined total of four children, from the Cleveland Metropolitan area. Each of the children from our two adopted families were provided several toys, winter accessories and apparel items. On December 14th, CJCC student and staff volunteers delivered toys to the pre-kindergarten through third grade students at Iowa-Maple Elementary School.
CJCC Security Officer, Belinda Bray, suggested that the Building Construction Technol-ogy class create toy boxes to give to the children of our Job Corps student parents as part of the CJCC Toy Drive. Ms. Bray discussed the idea with CJCC Toy Drive administrator/volunteer Rose Houston and CJCC Building Construction Technology Instructor, Robert Peck, and both agreed it was a great idea, and so it happened.

The Building Construction Technology students made custom toy boxes for each of the children of CJCC student parents, and the children of our two adopted fam-ilies.
We would like to acknowledge the following: The CJCC student Toy Drive vol-unteers: Angelica Green, Alvin Dotson, Sydney Jackson, Kadeem Gardner, De-metrius Davis, Dontez Hicks, Jaccarri Webb, Camaria Amos, Jiya Higdon and Romell Ameny, who gave so freely of their time to help categorize, wrap and dis-tribute toys. Likewise, we would like to thank the Building Construction Technol-ogy class for the beautiful toy boxes they created and Ms. Bray for the idea. Ad-ditionally, special recognition to the dynamic Toy Drive Team: Sandra Talley, Saulette Reed, Nicole Lewis and Sara Allen. For the past three years, Talley, Reed and Allen have volunteered their time to collect, record and post money and/or gifts received from staff during the Toy Drive and “Dress Down Fridays” fundraisers. Similarly, Lewis and Talley have consistently aided with wrapping and delivering toys for all three Toy Drives.
Thanks again to all of the CJCC staff and students who volunteered their time, as well as to everyone who participated by donating toys and money. The CJCC stu-dents, and staff are truly honored to have had the opportunity to be a part of such a wonderful occasion. There is truly nothing more gratifying than to bring a smile to a child’s face, especially on Christmas Day. The CJCC family would like to wish everyone a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
