The Cleveland Clinic and (CRI) Canyon Ranch Institute partnered with the Cleveland Job Corps Academy (CIC) Center Industry Council in implementing the Life Enhancement Program. Early this year, First Lady Michaelle Obama became an advocate of healthy living for America’s Youth . In this spirit the Cleveland Clinic Hospital /Canyon Ranch Institute brought the Life Enhancement Program which targets 18-24 year old urban youth. Twenty-two Cleveland Job Corps Academy students particpated in the Health Literacy, Improving Nutrition, Physical Activity and Stress Management modules. This was an eight week program held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the CJCC. Michelle J. Barkley MSN,CNP,Director Clinical and Educational Outreach along with Cleveland Clinic staff instucted the students on diet and nutrition. We also toured the local Dave’s supermarket to learn about the store layout and how this affects healthy/unhealthy purchase decisions, They learned to make smoothies learn about the impact of daily caloric intake on overall health. The Life Enhancement Program was successful in initiating powerful changes in our students lives.
