Cleveland Job Corps Workforce Council Meeting

Cleveland Job Corps Center held their Annual Workforce Council Luncheon on October 18, 2017. More than fifty businesses, civic, union, educational, and government representatives were in attend-ance. The Workforce Council works with local boards, and reviews labor market information to determine and provide recommendations regarding the center’s career technical training offerings. Council members meet on a quarterly basis to reevaluate labor market information, make recommen-dations on recent vocational training opportunities, and to receive Center updates.
Center representatives provided a thorough examination of the Cleveland Job Corps scorecard in the following areas: high school diploma, career technical training, literacy gains, numeracy gains and cre-dentials; as well as, Center updates, highlights, challenges, short-term goals, long-term goals, and la-bor market information. Attendees participated in roundtable discussions, networked, provided feed-back, and discussed updates.

Employers represented at the Workforce Council Luncheon included: Home Depot, CEOGC, New Avenues to Independence Inc., Goodwill Industries, Towards Employment, TRI-C Community Col-lege, United Labor Agency, A.M. Higley, Donnelly Concrete Construction, Councilman Michael Polensek, County Councilwoman Yvonne Conwell, First Energy, Rebuilding Together Northeast Ohio, Cleveland Clinic, Cuyahoga County, His Treasure Home Health, Amara Home Care, First Choice and Cleveland Bricklayer Local 5. These are just a few of the employers who are committed to hiring, and/or provide highly skilled work-based learning opportunities, internships, and externships to Cleveland Job Corps students.
