“I had just learned that I was about to have a daughter, it really motivated me to join Job Corps,” explained Jeremy Rivers. “I needed to start a career that would provide for my family.” Jeremy was employed as a food preparation worker and dishwasher at the Cheesecake Factory and after learning about the Job Corps program from a friend, he decided to enroll.

Jeremy entered the gates of the Cleveland Job Corps Center on November 21, 2016. He earned his High School Diploma from Penn Foster; in addition to his Carpentry, National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Core Curriculum, Gastite Installer, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA-10), Scaffolding Safety, Green Awareness, and UBC (United Brotherhood of Carpenter’s) Pre-Apprentice Credentials. He also served as a Dorm Leader, mentoring his peers and enjoyed playing basketball.

Jeremy completed the Cleveland Job Corps program on February 28, 2018. He advises students to “listen.” He is convinced that if students listen they will have a better chance to grow. Jeremy stated that he is thankful for all the staff and instructors at the Cleveland Job Corps Center that went above and beyond to help him learn and grow personally and professionally.

Jeremy is employed as a Carpenter Apprentice at Frank Novak and Sons. He is working at the One University Circle Project construction site. “I believe the key to success is patience and consistency when working to achieve goals,” said Jeremy.
