Cleveland Job Corps Center – GO RED FOR WOMEN !

Faced with the challenge to dispel myths and raise awareness about heart disease being the number one killer of women, the American Heart Associa-tion created “Go Red For Women” in 2004. The “Go Red For Women” move-ment is a passionate, emotional, social initiative designed to educate and empower women to take charge of their heart, health, and their lives. The Cleveland Job Corps Center’s (CJCC) Wellness Department hosted their an-nual “Go Red for Women” event on February 19, 2015 in an effort to raise awareness in the fight against heart disease to the female students and staff. Everyone participated in wearing red that day as a way to show support in the fight against heart disease in women. The ladies of the CJCC heard from Debra Bray, MSN, RN, LMT who explained the importance of scheduling time to take care of yourself, followed by CJCC Wellness nurse Renee Bailey-Burns who spoke about how a Healthy Heart Does Matter. The ladies were also able to ob-serve Master Chef Anthony K. Roan as he educated them on portion control, prepa-ration strategies and techniques for healthy foods and healthy cooking. Master Chef Anthony K. Roan graduated from Columbus State University’s Culinary Arts Pro-gram and possesses a degree in hotel hospitality management. He has worked for Applebee’s Corporation, John Qs, Pickwick and Frolic, and Morton’s Steakhouse. Chef Roan has opened 7 well known restaurants in Cleveland, Ohio during the past 10 years. He is the CEO of A Blessed Hand Food and Catering Services. CJCC la-dies were also able to receive health screenings, speak with healthcare profes-sionals and obtain valuable information on a variety of women’s health top-ics.
