Cleveland Job Corps Center- Second Chance

Second Chance…
Ohio Department of Youth Services facilities designed the Re-entry
program to help previously incarcerated youth with employment and
educational endeavors after their release. The Re-entry Program symbolizes
a second chance and for all youth re-entering the community
and the much needed support to aid them with successfully transitioning
back into their homes.
Carmen Dorman a Re-Entry Specialist for the Summit County Juvenile Court
has been bringing groups of young men and women to the Cleveland Job Corps Center
for two years. Ms. Dorman stated, “I am always amazed by the Job Corps and all that it
has to offer young people who are trying to find their way in life. The Job Corp has
implemented such a dynamic program to assist young people with a trade, an education,
life skills, personal skills, and leadership skills, which will prepare them for the
real world and it is all for free!”. Ms. Dorman tries to expose several youth to the Job
Corp program, because she sees the program as an opportunity of a lifetime.
Many of the re-entry youth have difficult home environments; and given the
opportunity to have structure and support as they transition into adulthood would be
beneficial to many of them. She has had four youths complete the (Cleveland and Cincinnati)
Job Corps programs, and they are all currently employed full-time. “I can’t say
enough about this awesome program and the dynamic people who has chosen to help
our young people as they transition into adulthood,” expressed Ms. Dorman.
BUILDING FUTURES Today Cleveland Job Corps
Staff of the Month
Recently wed Mrs. Katrina Hayden-Robinson joined the Cleveland
Job Corps family, as a Residential Advisor in June of
2013. Mrs. Katrina Hayden-Robinson tied the knot with Tony
Robinson last month. They have two very energetic sons and
one adorable daughter. From the beginning, it was quite clear
that Mrs. Hayden-Robinson was a self-starter and was dedicated
to ensuring the students enjoy their stay while enrolled in the
program. Mrs. Hayden-Robinson made the transition to Student Government Association
(SGA) Coordinator in January of 2014. Students and staff alike have marveled
at her ability to organize leadership programs and fun filled events that increased
morale. She really raised the bar this month as she had personal oversight
on the development of “Fun Day”. Mrs. Hayden-Robinson created a carnival like
atmosphere on the campus allowing students and staff; time to just hang out and
have fun before the students left for summer break.
Upon recognizing the need for the residential living area to have proper student
governance, she made sure that every dorm on center has student leaders and posted
the hierarchy in each dormitory for students to view. Additionally, Mrs. Hayden-
Robinson recognized the efforts of the SGA executive
board and was diligent in revising the student government
SOP so they could receive compensation for their time and
efforts. “In the six plus years that I have been at Job Corps,
the SGA and student body has never been more energized,”
voiced Dr. Hale, Social Development Director. The accomplishments
of Mrs. Hayden-Robinson not only reflect credit
upon herself,
