Cleveland Job Corps Grasping Every Opportunity

Cleveland Job Corps Alumni Evan M. Hamilton (29), is finishing up a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a Concentration in Human Resource Management from Strayer University. The degree will allow him to advance from his current position as a Messaging Customer Engagement Specialist into a leadership or teaching position with his employer Delta Air Lines. He also plans to start a Human Resource consulting company that will work primarily with small black owned businesses helping them navigate the various issues that come with being an employer.

“Job Corps taught me to actively seek opportunities and understand there is always room to grow and become a better person,” described Evan.

During his enrollment at Cleveland Job Corps from 2012 to 2014, Evan earned certifications in Medical Office Support, Insurance Claims Processor and Electronic Health Records Specialist in addition to his GED from Penn foster. He also assisted with monthly student birthday celebrations and new student orientations; and volunteered at the Cleveland Clinic in their volunteer services department. Evan also found time to volunteer as an English tutor.

He advises students considering Medical Office Support to understand the trade will always be needed and will allow them to venture into a multitude of areas in the medical and business fields.

Evan explained that the entire Job Corps experience is what truly prepared him to deal with various temperaments and taught him to maximize every opportunity presented. “The amount of staff that helped me along the way is truly immeasurable,” acknowledged Evan. “They truly invested countless hours, energy and counsel to make sure I reached my highest potential.”
