Cleveland Job Corps Health & Wellness Events

On Wednesday, October 18, 2017, the Cleveland Job Corps Center was swarming with health-related events as the Center hosted a “Boo to the Flu Health Fair” and “Blood Drive” for staff and students. Staff and students could receive free flu vaccines, health and wellness infor-mation from vendors, and donate blood.
Under the direction of the Center’s Health & Wellness Manager, Trabienne Franklin, and Medical & Dental Clerk, Rolanda Wilson Coordinated the “Boo to the Flu Health Fair.” The fair had about 200 people in attendance, with more than 65 of them receiving the flu vaccines ad-ministered by the Health & Wellness department.
This was the first year a Blood Drive was held in unison with the “Boo to the Flu Health Fair.” It was al-so the first time the American Red Cross brought the Bloodmobile on Center. The American Red Cross collected a total of 17 pints of blood, which has the potential to save as many as 51 people’s lives. The Blood Drive was coordinated by Cleveland Job Corps Clinical Medical Assistant Instructor, Ange-la Laureano, CMA.
The following community vendors: Aids Task Force of Greater Cleveland, Big Hearts Home Health, His Treasures, Red Cross Health Mobile, NEON, City of Cleveland Department of Public Health, Cleveland Emergency Medical Service (EMS), Carmella Rose Health Foundation, Rogers/Famico BiBi Retirement Center, Birthright Inc., Moms First – May Dugan Center, Care Source, American Sickle Cell Anemia As-sociation, and VIP Smiles Inc., provided information on how to improve one’s health and wellbeing to attendees. Staff and students visited the vendor tables to learn and receive information.
Several of the vendors have already committed to next year’s event and future endeavors to educate and prepare our Job Corps students with maintaining their health. The Cleveland Job Corps Family extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the many community partners that con-tinue to support the students and staff of the Cleveland Job Corps Center every year.
