Cleveland Job Corps Partners with Youth Opportunities Unlimited Y.O.U.

Cleveland Job Corps Center (CJCC) is pleased to announce they entered a partnership with Youth Opportunities Unlimited on June 21, 2021. The alliance will permit CJCC students between the ages of 16 and 19 to be employed by Y.O.U. while still completing their training at the center.

New partnerships further expand opportunities for CJCC students and aid students in making a successful transition from training to the workplace. Students will connect the vocational skills they learned in the classroom to a real work environment. CJCC students Miquel Beckham and William McCorkle are participating in the Y.O.U. program.

Miquel Beckham is the Security Receptionist at the front desk. He has already earned an Office Administration certification, and he is working towards getting a Medical Administrative Assistant certification. Miquel plans to save the money he makes from the program to secure his place once he completes his training at CJCC.

Building Construction Technology student William McCorkle works in the maintenance department as a custodian. Williams enrolled in the program to gain experience in his industry.

Both students work 20-25 hours per week and must attend weekly virtual coaching sessions with their Job Coach Maysia Finkley. After Miquel and William complete the program, they will still have access to Y.O.U. services for one year.

The Y.O.U. program helps teens and young adults, ages 14-24 living in economically distressed communities succeed by providing educational and workforce opportunities, skills development, and access to career pathways (https://www.youthopportunities.org/employment-programs).

“Like Job Corps, Y.O.U. aims to put young adults on the path to career success,” expressed CJCC Business Community Liaison Melonie Harrell.
