Nineteen-year-old Kalamazoo, Michigan, native Angelisa Block rejected the notion she could not earn her high school diploma and decided to enroll in Job Corps. Determined not to let anything or anyone interfere with her goals, Angelisa quickly learned how to adapt to campus life and live with such a diverse population.

On July 27, 2015, Angelisa joined the Cleveland Job Corps Center (CJCC) “Family.” She worked diligently to earn her high school diploma and Medical Office Support certification. Angelisa went on to attended Cuyahoga Community College through the center’s Advanced Career Training (ACT) program and obtained a Customer Service certification from the Council for Economic Opportunities in Greater Cleveland (CEOGC).

Angelisa credits her mentor, CJCC Career Transition Readiness Specialist Denneth Campbell, for encouraging, listening and guiding her. “Mrs. Campbell always made time for me no matter how busy she was and she always told me to never give up on my dream,” said Angelisa.

On April 19, 2017, Angelisa completed the CJCC program and left to begin a new chapter of her life in the Army. She traveled to Fort Lenard, Missouri, to complete 10 weeks of basic training and 19 weeks of Mission of Study. She will then transfer to a unit in either Columbus, Ohio, or Michigan for 6 years of active duty as a Military Police Officer. Angelisa plans to make a career in the military.
