In efforts to provide for his family, Saadya Rosemond’s father had to seek employment out-of-state. Saadya’s mode of transportation quickly came to an abrupt stop, and school attendance was not being enforced under the supervision of her stepmother. Lacking the motivation and encouragement to complete her education, Saadya dropped out of school in the twelfth grade. “There was no way I would have ever taken the initiative. On a typical day, while being truant, I would joyride and visits my friends,’ said Saadya.

Saadya initially visited the Cleveland Job Corps Center in March of 2016; unfortunately, she had too many personal and environmental distractions to enroll at the time. However, on February 12, 2017, Saadya joined the Cleveland Job Corps family. “I was ready for something new, I was ready to make it work,” clarified Saadya. She earned her High School Diploma from Penn Foster in addition to her ServeSafe Food Handler, Home Health Care Aide, Certified Nurse Aide, CPR, and First Aid credentials. Saadya was an active member of the T-N-T Dance team and participated in a center Fashion Show. “My counselor, Ms. Smith aided me in making better personal decisions, recommended various resources, and gave me her honest opinion when asked,” stated Saadya.

Saadya gained employment with at HRC Manor Care as a Nursing Assistant. She is working on getting an apartment. Her plan is to enroll in Cuyahoga Community College’s Emergency Medical Technician program. “Job Corps has helped me succeed by providing me free education and training in an Allied Health Trade that I would have had to otherwise pay for,” explained Saadya. “I appreciated having a free place to stay, which included meals and transportation to and from my appointments and interviews.”
