Hometown: Lorain, OH
Center: Cleveland
Region: Chicago
Career Area: Carpentry
Job Corps Date: 8/21/2017 – 4/18/2018

After graduating from Albert Einstein Academy in Westlake, Ohio, Michael Young found himself couch surfing at friends’ homes and displaced. Struggling with no real job skills nor a place to call home, he enrolled in the Cleveland Job Corps Center on Aug 21, 2017.

“Cleveland Job Corps helped me get a job, my license reinstated, and save money for a down payment on a car and to get my own place,” boasted Michael. He earned his United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC) Pre-Apprentice Certificate, National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Core Curriculum, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA 10), Scaffold Safety, Green Awareness, and Lead Awareness credentials.

Michael is employed as a Carpenter Apprentice at Frank Novak & Sons. Upon the completion of his apprenticeship in the Union, he plans to become a Journeyman Carpenter. Michael wants to enhance his skills in the Carpenter’s Union and eventually get into framing and building.
