Davante Anderson’s favorite quote, “It’s not where you start, it’s where you finish,” rang true as this twenty-five-year-old has truly finished well. After the unfortunate passing of his mother, Davante found himself in a state of despair and bleakness. Knowing the dreams her daughter had for Davante, his grandmother told him about Job Corps.

Wanting to get his life back on track and make his mother proud, Davante joined the Cleveland Job Corps “Family” on January 24, 2016. In less than a year, he earned his High School Diploma online through New Learning Resources Online. In addition, he received his Building Construction Technology, National Center for Construction Education (NCCER), Research Core Curriculum, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA 10), Forklift Operator, RAMSET Powder Actuated Tools, and Home Builder’s Institute (HBI) Pre-Apprentice credentials.

“He was always looking for ways to volunteer and help others,” stated Adam Bohn, Career Technical Training Manager. Davante also completed numerous community service projects while at Job Corps.

Former Cleveland Job Corps Building Construction Technology Instructor, Robert Peck mentored Davante and assisted him with personal development. “Approach your trades with a positive attitude, be ready to work, take all the advice, and get as much instruction as you can,” recommends Davante. He thanks all the staff at Cleveland Job Corps for helping him change his life, and the guidance they provided.

Davante is now an Environmental Services Specialist at University Hospitals. He is constantly looking for new challenges and opportunities for growth within the organization and wants to establish a career there.
