Denzel Polk graduated from Martin Luther King High School in 1995. “Before coming to Job Corps, I was unemployed and looking for a new direction in my life,” explained Denzel. After sitting down with his uncle and discussing his future, he decided to enroll in Job Corps to attain his career goals.

On June 20, 2016, Denzel began a new chapter in his life at the Cleveland Job Corps Center. He earned his Nursing Assistant, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, First Aid, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), ServSafe and Home Health Aide credentials. He completed his Work-Based Learning (WBL) internship at New Avenues Adult Day Center.

Denzel passed the State Tested Nursing Assistant exam on November 4, 2016. Two days after applying for University Manor, he was offered a full-time position as an STNA on the Dementia/Alzheimer’s unit caring for eleven residents.

“My twelve-year-old brother was my motivation,” stated Denzel. He feels that it is very important that he set a positive example so that his brother will know that there is more to life than complacency.
