Cleveland Job Corps Student Success Story

Meet Nathaniel Johnson

“Job Corps helped me believe that I could truly do something with my life,” said Nathanial. “Assisting me with attending Cuyahoga Community College’s (TRI-C) welding program helped elevate me to the next level.”

Ohioan native Nathaniel joined the Cleveland Job Corps program on October 26, 2018. He faced this new opportunity with determination earning his Penn Foster High School Diploma and completing the Sign & Display trade. Nathaniel also obtained industry-recognized credentials in Powder Actuated Tools, International Union of Painters and Allied Trades Pre-Apprentice, Metal Inert Gas (MIG) Welding, Stick Welding, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10 Hour Course.

Through a partnership that Cleveland Job Corps Center has with Cuyahoga Community College (TRI-C), Nathaniel was able to enroll in the college’s Welding program. Although Nathaniel struggled with blueprint reading skills, he studied and stayed after class with his Instructor to master the concepts. He completed the Job Corps program on November 17, 2017. “The positive energy on the Center allowed me to focus on my education, and prepare me for a successful career,” said Nathaniel. Eighteen-year-old Nathaniel is employed with Nesco Resource as a welder making $14 an hour.
