After graduating from Harvey High School, Shakia Smith began working in a factory as a Molding Operator. Feeling like she was in a dead-end job with no future, Shakia decided Job Corps would be her best option for success.

During her enrollment, Shakia was involved in campus activities. She served as President of G dorm, was a member of the cooking club, and often volunteered in the Recreation Department. Shakia completed the nursing assistant training on May 31, 2019. “Thank you, Ms.  Widener for motivating and helping me stay on track while I was in class,” said Shakia. “It was truly needed and valued during my journey.”
With the assistance of Work-Work Based Learning Coordinator Melonie Harrell, Shakia secured employment at Wickliffe Country Place as a State Tested Nursing Assistant. She plans to continue her education and become a Nurse Practitioner. “You can really do anything you want to if you put your mind to it and work hard at it,” stated Shakia.
