Cleveland Job Corps Student Success Story

“Never give up, you have so much potential to unleash,” advises recent Cleveland Job Corps graduate D’Angelo Otey. On July 18, 2019, the nineteen-year-old successfully completed Job Corps’ Bricklaying career training program. D’Angelo is starting a new chapter in his life at Excelsior Springs Job Corps Transportation Communications Union/International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers TCU/IAM in Excelsior Springs, Missouri on August 12, 2019. He enrolled in the Railroad Freight Service Worker Advanced Training program.

“My father and I spoke about how Job Corps could help me find direction in my life by getting my high school diploma and a trade,” explained D’Angelo. “I could get a good job and take care of myself.” The Cleveland native enrolled in the Cleveland Job Corps Center on August 27, 2018. In a little over a year, D’Angelo earned his high school diploma and Bricklaying certification. Additionally, he obtained Green Awareness Card, Scaffolding, Power Actuated Tools and Occupational Safety and Health Administration 10 credentials. D’Angelo attributes his success to the faculty members that helped him stay focused and out of trouble.
