Cleveland Job Corps Student Success Story

Meet… Christie Smith
Age: 17
Hometown: Detroit MI
Center: Cleveland Job Corps
Enrollment Dates: November 5, 2018 – November 25, 2019
Career Area: Pharmacy Technician

With no clear path and fed up with couch surfing, Christie Smith decided to come to Job Corps. Her sister Alicia Peoples attended Job Corps in St Paul’s Minnesota and her brother Adam Peoples attended Job Corps in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They expressed to her how much Job Corps helped both of them, so Christie decided to follow in their footsteps and enroll too.

During her enrollment, Christie earned her high school diploma, in addition to obtaining a Pharmacy Technician and Serve Safe certifications. She was a member of the Student Government Association and served as a Youth 2 Youth Ambassador. Her advice to new applicants is to keep their head in the game. She attributes her success to High School Diploma Instructors, Shelly Trapp and Michael Faulkner.

Christie was accepted into the advanced training Transportation Communications Union (TCU)/IAM program at the Potomac Job Corps Center. While there, she will be pursuing an Airline Transportation certification. She aspires to continue her education and become a Registered Nurse so that she can work as a traveling nurse.
