“I am grateful for Job Corps and the staff, they helped me see my potential,” stated Hellena Shoda Smith. “Even though I wanted to leave and go back home, I am so glad I listened.” After graduating from the Cleveland Job Corps Center last fall, Hellena began working in the Facility Maintenance Department at Antioch Baptist Church.

During her enrollment, Hellene earned her high school diploma from Penn Foster, as well as her Building Construction Technology and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10 credentials. She credits Building Construction Technology Instructor Mike Yeager, Drivers Education Instructor Roy Levy and Reading Education Instructor Lynette Green for being there for her.

Hellene started college this spring at Cuyahoga County Community College (Tri-C). She is working towards obtaining a Liberal Arts Degree. Hellene plans to continue living with her parents while in school and working. Her main goal at the time is to save enough money to buy a car and get an apartment. Hellene also plans to develop new goals as her life progresses!
