CLEVELAND JOBCORPS BULLY PREVENTION ASSEMBLY

CLEVELAND JOBCORPS BULLY PREVENTION ASSEMBLY

In recognition of National Bullying Prevention Month, the Cleveland Job Corps Center held a Bully Prevention Assembly on October 25, 2016. Representatives from each department dramatized three-minute skits describing various forms of bullying. Each year during the month of October, thousands of people, schools, communities, and organizations come together to edu-cate and raise awareness for bullying prevention.
The departments and types of bullying roles played were: Health Career Technical Training – cyberbullying: Education – disability bullying; Career Preparation Period , verbal and residential bullying: Construction Career Technical Training – emotional bullying: and Counseling – physical bullying. The staff and students did an excellent job of demonstrating the devastating effects of bullying and how bul-lying can occur. The topic appeared to impact the students and staff, as well as how they viewed themselves.
The Cleveland Job Corps Center is committed to providing a safe environment to students, staff, and community through educating and awareness. The Center will also be implementing “Tell Somebody” boxes that will be located throughout the campus, so students can report any suspicious bullying activity anonymously. In addition, to conducting peer-to-peer groups to help educate and offer resources such as empowerment, self-esteem and diversity workshops.
Cleveland Job Corps Center Medical Assistant Instructor, Carla Widner said it best, “hurting people, hurt other people, so let’s stop this at the root and not just cut the grass.”
A special thanks to everyone who helped in making the assembly a tremendous success. CLEVELAND ROCKS!
