On October 4, 2013, the Cleveland Job Corps Center’s carpentry class toured International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 18 Apprenticeship & Training Center in Richfield,Ohio.
Nancy HanLan, Instructor and graduate,of the apprenticeship training site greeted the staff and students with a warm welcome. In her presentation she talked about job readiness and attendance i the classroom and ont the job. For example;a great trainee who doesn’t show up for classes will recieve a failing grade.Richfield Training Center is centrally located approximately 20 miles south of downtown Cleveland. The JC trainees learned about Forklift operation and each had the opportunity to have a practice session to dig the rough terrain. It was a great experence that our students will never forget. In addition they learned about the tower craneand what a local 18 operator trainee should do to prepare for CCO certification. They also met Mr. Jim White,Mechanic/Instrutor,who took out timewhile he was working on mechanical equipment. The center will be invited back for additional tours and they have requested that the center recruits more females that are interested in Heavy Equipment Operation.
