Cleveland Jobcorps Winter Ball Extravaganza

Cleveland Jobcorps Winter Ball Extravaganza

Aware that many of their peers never had an op-portunity to attend their prom, Cleveland Job Corps Center (CJCC) Pharmacy Technician stu-dent, De’onshana Drummond and Medical Office Support student, Lameisha Dunklin devised a plan to request that CJCC host a “Winter Ball”. The ladies scheduled a meeting to discuss the idea with CJCC Center Director, Will Houston. He liked the idea and provided the ladies with a budget for the event. Understanding they would need assistance putting the event together, they enlisted the help of Leisure Time Learning Coordinator, Sabrina Streeter and a few other young ladies to form a “Winter Ball” committee.
The committee recognized that a ball just wouldn’t be a ball without a royalty court. CJCC student candidates campaigned to be nominated as King & Queen, Prince & Princess and Duke & Duchess. After days of collaborating, shopping, tallying ballots and working to transform the CJCC Recreation Building, the majestic “Winter Ball” was fashioned on December 10, 2015.
As 7 p.m. was approaching, the anticipation was rising. After all, it was the night of the “Winter Ball” and the evening was just getting started. The charmed night began with dinner, prepared by Sodexo and served by the volunteer CJCC staff. During the meal, the Student Government Association (SGA) presented the awards to the Royal Court. With crowns on their heads and sashes across their chests, King & Queen David McElrath and Erica Rucker, Prince & Princess Jameal Watkins and Cambri Griffin, and Duke & Duchess Montel Traylor and Tamara Lenix coupled together in the royal procession.
CJCC students enjoyed a night getting all dressed up and attending the “Winter Ball” with friends and dates. Laughing, dancing, taking selfies and socializing with friends to upbeat music produced the perfect atmosphere for fun. Second by second, smiles widened and excitement grew because not only did they look good, but they felt good too. For many of these students who were not able to attend a prom, formal or ball for whatever reason while they attended high school, this will definitely be a night they will remember and remanence.
A special thank you to all the staff of CJCC for giving of their time and assis-tance to make this beautiful evening a success, Sodexo for the wonderful food, Career Counselor, Annette Rudolph-Davis, for taking the wonderful pictures, and SGA for the awards and funding the pictures. Job Well Done…to De’onshana Drummond and Lameisha Dunklin, two very thoughtful young ladies.
