Fresh Start for Delaware Valley Student

Fresh Start for Delaware Valley Student

Career Transition Staff, Dominique Vinas and Caitlin Ursini had the pleasure of stopping by Fresh Start Café in Newburgh, NY. Not only did the food smell delicious, the environment was so vibrant it could brighten up anyone’s day. There is some irony in the name of this restaurant, because it is definitely a “fresh start” for Student Tamaya Parker. She has struggled with finding a job that she doesn’t mind getting up every morning and attending, and where she can actually gain some useful tips that will help her in her daily life. Here at Fresh Start she is learning measurements of different ingredients, learning how to use different kitchen tools, and actually contributing to cooking some of the delicious food that is served. Her boss and co-workers all believe in being a team and teaching and helping out where it’s needed, and that’s why their business is so successful. “Tamaya is doing great here, she’s a very good worker,” said Charlene Woodson, Front end manager at the Café. Tamaya is soaking up all of this knowledge of cooking while she can, but her ambition doesn’t stop there. She is interested in getting another job in Security where she can put her skills to play! Now that she has a diverse skill set, she is bound to succeed, especially with keeping a positive mindset and knowing that CTS are always there to help her. Tamaya completed the Security Trade program here at Delaware Valley and also obtained her High School Diploma.
