Edison Job Corps Celebrates Graduates

On Friday, August 31, 2018 the Edison Job Corps Academy celebrated graduates who have completed the program successfully and are advancing with their career. The Edison Job Corps graduates came from all over the country to participate in the program, with about half from New Jersey, a quarter from New York and other states, and several from Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Key Note speaker was Dr Kathlyn Barrett-Layne who made a thunderous speech regarding overcoming obstacles, never giving in to self pity, and the power of education. This year the key note speaker was a former Job Corps graduate who believes in the program and is living proof that success starts with your mindset. The Center Director made a moving introduction on Job Corps being a the starting point and just the beginning of the each graduates future. ” If you can believe Job Corps can help you achieve it. “Lonnie Hall, Center Director”

The ceremony celebrated the students who achieved their GED, Trade Certifications and Career Placement. Most notably, Alvin Barr graduate of the UAW Auto program received acknowledgement for being the first student at Job Corps to complete the Mercedes Benz program and is currently on track to extremely financially awarding career.

The students were shining and proud in front of their families and appreciative of the support they received from staff.
