Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center recycles 12,000 lbs of e-wast for Global Youth Service Day!

In honor of Global Youth Service Day, the students and staff of the Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center all joined together for the morning of April 26th and volunteered at local non-profit e-recycling organization Comprenew.  Comprewnew is a free community electronics recycling organization that works to keep e-waste out of landfills.  All 200 students and staff on-center took a break from their everyday training, job responsibilities, meetings, and tasks and worked simultaneously as one large TEAM to dissemble computer PC’s.  During the 3 hours of volunteering, the Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center completed about 3 week’s worth of work, took a part 545 PC’s, worth about $5300.00 of product that totaled approximately 12,000 lbs of e-waste processed and kept out of landfills!   Comprewnew staff commented that Job Corps was the hardest working group they have seen and that they were “amazed” by how much Job Corps was able to recycle!  All students and staff not only worked hard, but they remained focused, enthusiastic, engaged and demonstrated amazing perseverance!
