Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Student Receives a Congressional Medal of Merit!

Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center Office Administration student, Christian Dickinson was nominated by Center staff to receive the 2013 Congressional Medal of Merit Award from United States Congressman Justin Amash.  The medal is granted to students in the Congressman’s 3rd District who exhibit academic excellence, peer respect, community service, and school citizenship. 

Christian entered the Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center in October of 2011. He has completed his GED and the Office Administration Trade and earned his Microsoft Word Certification.  He participated in a paid Work Based Learning internship at Vi-Chem and also had the opportunity to job shadow for a day in Congressman Amash’s District Office.  Christian is a leader.  He serves as the President of his dormitory wing and the Student Government Association.  He is always observed helping staff and encouraging students, as well as redirecting students when needed.  His professionalism has earned him a Platinum Card, which is the highest color card a student can earn while in the program.  Christian is always happy and upbeat, gracious, kind and very humble.  The Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center is proud of Christian and all his success!

Christian was awarded the medal by Congressman Amash during a special ceremony at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in downtown Grand Rapids on Saturday, April 20th.  In total, 37 area high school students received the award.
