GJCC’s Automotive Technology Instructors Mr. Van der Wouden and Mr. DeSalvatore arranged for their students to participate in Groundhog Shadow Day 2016. They took their students to Lia Toyota on Central Avenue in Schenectady. There, students first met in a classroom setting with Mr. Fran Bain, Assistant Service Manager, who spoke to them about career opportunities in the Automotive Technology field. He also spoke of how pleased he is with two of his employees who are Glenmont Job Corps Center graduates! Mr. Bain told the students that a GJCC graduate, Earl Decker, is currently rated #1 for productivity in their workplace.

Students were then given a tour of the service area where they observed the intake process as well as actual repairs. The highlight of the day was when they saw a Toyota truck being reassembled after having the truck frame replaced due to a recall. Mr. DeSalvatore was pleased to visit with one of his former students from many years ago and one of his employees from a former job, both who are now employed at Lia Toyota.

We thank Mr. Van der Wouden and Mr. De Salvatore for their participation in Groundhog Shadow Day. They did a great job providing their students with a great experience that will encourage them in their studies at GJCC and inspire them to achieve their goals.
