GLENMONT JCC SCHAGHTICOKE FAIR RECRUITMENT

August 2-August 7, 2015

A great amount of effort was put in by students and staff to have a recruitment table at the Schaghticoke Fair. The Schaghticoke Fair is a large country fair that features farm animal displays and competitions, various tractor and car competitions, and amusement rides along with food and vendor booths. Locals look forward to this festive event which takes place annually just before the Labor Day holiday.

The ultimate goal of Glenmont Job Corps Center’s presence at the fair was to encourage student enrollment and to make business partnerships with the rural populations of Rensselaer and Washington Counties. The table was open all six days of the fair’s duration. Students worked at the both to share their personal experiences of Glenmont Job Corps Center programs, while staff were busy greeting those passing by. We got to speak to all types of people of all age groups.
Young people were encouraged to sign up for a phone call from one of our Outreach/Admissions staff. Older people were asked to spread the word about the opportunities at GJCC to potential candidates they know. Some Job Corps graduates stopped by when they saw our sign. One graduate was anxious to give an informational packet to his girlfriend to encourage her to take advantage of “such a great program.” Another graduate, who was working security at the fair, even said about Job Corps; “It was the best time of my life.”

Having the table at the Schaghticoke Fair was a great success. We walked away with a list of potential students and some new business contacts as well. Many thanks go out to the all the staff, who worked extra hours, to allow this great recruitment opportunity to happen. We especially thank the students that attended and did an excellent job representing Glenmont Job Corps Center!
