Glenmont Job Corps Summer Graduation

David Soares grad 8-2015 On August 21, 2015 Glenmont Job Corps Center held its Quarterly Graduation Ceremony. The auditorium was decorated beautifully with yellow and blue balloons and streamers, setting a festive atmosphere for the celebration. Our graduates looked stunning in their caps and gowns and their smiles and excitement reflected their pride in their accomplishments.
After the graduates paraded into the auditorium, our Security Color Guard did the presentation of the Flags and everyone said the Pledge of Allegiance. Lee Webster, a current GJCC student, sang a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem. After Security/ Milcap instructor Mr. Moso introduced everyone, Center Director Deoborah Snape presented a welcoming speech which highlighted the great number of students who have benefited from Job Corps during its fifty years of existence. She gave specific examples of a few very successful Job Corps graduates, including boxing legend and businessman, George Foreman.
Albany County District Attorney, P. David Soares, was the guest speaker and he commented on how a graduation ceremony marks both an end and a beginning of a journey. He asked the students to think about what role they will play in society in twenty-five years and how technology has and will change the needs in society’s workforce. Mr. Soares was so happy to be here and was very impressed with Glenmont Job Corps, all we offer here and both current and graduating students. Next, graduating student, Ayodeji Osidele, gave an eloquent speech to his peers that was both congratulatory and encouraging. Each student then walked the stage and proudly received their diploma from Ms. Snape.
After the ceremony, graduates, family and guests enjoyed a delicious luncheon prepared by our talented culinary students under the direction of Chef Beth Koster. Many thanks go out to them and all staff, faculty and students that worked together to make today’s ceremony and celebration a success.
