Glenmont Reading Students Visit SUNY Albany

students visit suny 4-2016

On Friday, April 2, 2016 seven students from Reading 1 went on a field trip to the State University of New York (SUNY) at Albany. There, students were provided the opportunity to sit in on an actual college class to experience what it would be like to attend college. The group arrived to class early in order to introduce themselves to the professor. The class, “Reading Shakespeare,” taught by Dr. Jonah Richards, discussed Act 4, scenes 4 and 5 of Richard III.
After the class had concluded, the group continued on to the campus tour portion of the field trip. First, they watched an informational video providing them with pertinent information related to attending SUNYAlbany, including information on requirements for ac-ceptance into their programs and how to apply. A student tour guide then guided the group around campus and showed them everything SUNY Albany has to offer.
Ultimately, the students were very impressed with the campus and all its amenities. About half of the students said they want to attend SUNY Albany when they complete Job Corps. Some even filled out the informational cards and turned them in to have the application and other relevant information mailed to them. This campus tour had our students excited about going to college!
