On Wednesday, April 20, 2016 Glenmont Job Corps’ student leaders were chosen to spend the day as managers of various departments on center. These students were each assigned to shadow one GJCC manager for the entire day to learn their job responsibilities and to perform some of those everyday duties themselves, including attending meetings, supervising others, and examining center practices. The day’s assignments were as follows:

Center Directors: Ms. Snape, Natiya Catts and Wilsi Fernandez
CTT Managers: Ms. Arrington and Brandon Carlock
Academic Managers: Ms. Popow and Destiny Fitzgerald
Finance and Administration Directors: Mr. Mauro and Jeremiah D’Ambrosio
Finance Managers: Ms. Moore and Alfaakir Armand
Maintenance Managers: Mr. Sokol and Imari Armstrong
Safety & Security Managers: Mr. Thomas and Austin Smith
Social Development Directors: Mr. Battle and Aktasia Thompson
OA/CTS Directors: Ms. Pausley and Brandon Doty
CTS Supervisors: Mr. Gyasi and Elizabeth Ryan
CSIO Supervisors: Ms. Hackett and Kevin Cherys-Sanchez

Executive Administrative Assistants: Ms. Gagnon and Tomesha Bell
OA/CPP Coordinators: Ms. Ubiera and Jessica Thompson
CPP/Counseling Managers: Ms. Hall and Dah Klue
IT Managers: Mr. Benson and Jesse Presley

At the end of the training day, the managers and their student managers reconvened in the conference room to brief out on the day’s events. The group discussion concluded that not only was “Manager for a Day” a fun way for the students to learn more about GJCC’s daily operations, but the staff was so impressed to learn just how incredibly capable our students are of contributing positively to any workplace. Said Executive Administrative Assistant Ms. Gagnon, “Today reminded me that our students are more than ready to begin meaningful work when they leave here. [My student manager for the day] did such an awesome job, she doesn’t have to just take the first job that comes along. She will have multiple job offers.”
Great job to all of our student managers for the day! Thank you to all who participated for making the day such a success.
