Job Corps students volunteer with Congresswoman Frederica Wilson at Congressional Black Caucus “For the People” Jobs Initiative held in Miami

Over fifty Job Corps students from Homestead and Miami Job Corps Centers volunteered at the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) “For the People” Jobs Initiative hosted by Congresswoman Frederica Wilson on August 23, 2011 at the James L. Knight Center in Miami, FL.  The jobs fair attracted over 5,000 job applicants. The event brought real job opportunities to people out of work and directly connected over 100 national and local employers with unemployed constituents.

“From day one, my focus has been jobs, jobs, jobs,” said Congresswoman Wilson. “Unemployment in South Florida is no longer a crisis, but an epidemic. It’s time to take matters into our own hands and provide real opportunities for people to get back to work.”

Volunteering made such a positive and memorable impact on the Job Corps students.  Homestead Job Corps Center student Karissa Tate shadowed Alexis Snyder, District Chief of Staff for Congresswoman Wilson. “Working with Ms. Snyder was a great experience.  It showed me how being the boss of an event is no joke and how being a part of something so big really makes a difference” stated Karissa Tate.
