Jacksonville Job Corps Celebrates 2nd Annual Legislative Luncheon

 The Jacksonville Job Corps Center hosted its 2nd annual Legislative Luncheon on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at the Jacksonville Job Corps Center.  The luncheon  began at 11:30 a.m. in the center’s gymnasium.  Job Corps continues to celebrate 50 years of programming to students all over the country. 

 Congresswoman Corrine Brown spoke to an audience of Job Corps and community supporters about her commitment and support to Job Corps and her district.  She applauded the many supporters of the 50 year old program and the need that this program provides to the youth around the country.  She also addressed the current re-districting

Other elected officials attending the event were Councilman Sam Newby, representatives from State Senator Audrey Gibson’s Office and State Representative Reginald Fullwood.

 Several business and community awards were presented.  C&S Wholesale Grocers (Ms. Jennifer Brinson) was awarded the Platinum Business Partner Award.  The Blood Alliance (Mr. Willie Cherry) was presented the Gold Business Partner Award.  On the Community Relations side, 1-2-1 Financial (Ms. Gail Lewis) was presented the Platinum Community Partner Award and Career Source (Mr. M. Menchan) was presented the Gold Community Partner Award. 

The center also shared success by the students, within the last 8 months the Carpentry Trade has built 9 ramps for the disabled in partnership with Disable Services with the City of Jacksonville. 7 students have enlisted in the Military, multiple students have enrolled in college and accepted into the Advance Training Program.  The center continues to provides thousands of hours of community service to the Jacksonville community.

The most heart renching segment of the program was students sharing thier “Because of Job Corps Personal Stories.”
