Janette Dunlap Wins Regional Award for Dedication at Job Corps

(JACKSONVILLE, Florida)  – Ms Janette Dunlap, Wellness Manager and Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner at the Jacksonville Job Corps Center has  worked diligently to create a best practice model that incorporates community partners to enhance existing health services provided on the Jacksonville Job Corps Center.  In addition, Ms. Dunlap has worked to develop and implement wellness programs provided by community resources and internship opportunities that extend current services on center at no cost to the students.  As a result of Ms. Dunlap efforts the center has the following community partners/programs: Family Planning Clinic, Tobacco Free Initiative, HIV Integrating Change, STI Screening and disease prevention, Health Education Classes, Peer to Peer Initiative, HERAP (Hospital Emergency Room Alternative Program).  Additionally, she serves as a pre-ceptor for Nurse Practitioner students from Jacksonville University.

The Management and Training Corporation reached out to centers across the country seeking candidates for the “Celebrating Excellence 2012” Award Program.  Ms. Dunlap was nominated from the Jacksonville Job Corps Center in the category of Support Services Employee of the Year.  Candidates from 125 centers from around the country were nominated in this category but because of her outstanding service and commitment at the Jacksonville Job Corps Center she was selected for this honor.

Earlier this year Ms. Dunlap was noted for securing a grant from the Duval County Health Department as a partner with the Jacksonville Job Corps Center.  The purpose of the grant is to assist the center with a variety of health and wellness initiatives.

Ms. Dunlap has dedicated over twenty years in the Health Care Administration field.  Prior to coming to the Jacksonville Job Corps Center Ms. Dunlap worked at the Cleveland and Detroit Centers in a variety of areas including Career Technical Training.  She is currently pursuing her doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner and has partnered with Edward Waters College as a Research Consultant with the Schell Sweet.

Job Corps is a taxpayer-supported education and career technical training program administered by the United States Labor Department.  The program helps 16 to 24 year old young men and women to improve the quality of their lives through career technical and academic training. The Job Corps program serves about 60,000 students each year at 124 centers across the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
