Long Beach Students Work with Community Members to Make City Greener

Long Beach Job Corps students recently joined forces with community members to make the city greener. The students worked with 7th District City Council member James Johnson, city staffers, and Long Beach residents to plant 14 trees on 33rd Street in Long Beach. Under the tutelage of Long Beach resident John Royce, an expert  on all things green, the students dug in with their shovels, and even named their tree.

The group planted Catalina Ironwood Trees and California Sycamore. As the trees grow and mature, they will certainly make the neighborhood a greener place and also act as a sound barrier to make the roar of nearby freeway traffic quieter.
