“Music Under the Stars” Charitable Fundraiser

On April 20, MJCC participated in the “Music Under the Stars” Charitable Fundraiser . Held at the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Little Havana, the 5th annual event featured a silent auction, music by internationally famed musician Jose Feliciano, culinary samples from local restaurants and an honorary ceremony with local supporters, distinguished guests and major media press. The awards ceremony included such highlights as an inspirational speech by Senator Gwen Margolis, superintendant for Miami-Dade Public Schools Alberto Carvalho’s reading of a letter from President Barack Obama honoring the Heiken children’s vision program, and Jose Feliciano’s indoctrination as an honorary Board Member with a special award plaque. Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen, who hosted the Awards Ceremony, was given a beautiful “Music Under the Stars” themed painting made from clients of the Miami LightHouse.****Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen is also a co-chair of the Congressional Vision Caucus. We are pleased that Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen is also a long time supporter of our organization as well.  Upon being commended for her role with the event and for years of supporting youth in the Miami-Dade communities, the Congresswoman stated, “We love Job Corps!” —-About Miami Lighthouse for the Blind-Miami Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Inc. is the largest vision rehabilitation organization in Florida that’s renowned for providing quality services for 80 years.  Its mission is to provide eye health vision and rehabilitation care that promote independence, and its services are provided free-of-charge to individuals of all ages who are blind or visually impaired and reside in Miami-Dade or Monroe County.  The agency’s staff deliver dedicated rehabilitation, comprehensive eye examinations, vocational and social services to approximately 1,000 individuals monthly, most of whom are low income.
