Miami JC Hospitality Shines at 2012 Sony Ericsson Tennis Event

Sony Ericsson Open Tennis Tournament 2012, March 19-April 1. Renowned as one of the largest and most prestigious tennis tournaments in the world, this event brings thousands of visitors from across the globe to Crandon Park Tennis Center in the tropical paradise of Key Biscayne-Florida. And while the world’s top tennis circuit pros were working their serves, Miami Job Corps trainees and staff were busy  providing top notch customer service and catering day and night.  MJCC has been working with the EmpHire Solutions Company for 10 years, and this was the 3rd consecutive year that we teamed up with this employer to work at this tennis event.  Our Culinary Arts trainees prepared gourmet meals and worked as Chef’s in the VIP Catering Suites.  Our Business & Accounting students worked as cashiers and inventory clerks. Our MJCC staff and Alumni Ambassadors supervised Catering & Concession Stands that were operated by our trainees, and other key hospitality roles were carried out by our teams. Looking at the big picture, the trainees walked away with real work experience (WBL Skill Sets) that in turn improves their employability in the job market once they leave Job Corps. For the Alumni Ambassadors who worked in supervisory positions at the event, they were commended for serving as role models to the younger students. And kudos went out to our staff who put on smiles and rolled up their sleeves to contribute to the overall event successes. Major event sponsors included such high profile local and international companies as MasterCard, LAN Airlines, Penn, Corona Extra, FedEx, Miami.com and Baptist Health South Florida.
