Student Success Story

Milwaukee Job Corps Center graduate, Brittany Collins is one of the center’s success stories. Brittany learned about Job Corps from the Internet and television commercials. On June 7, 2011 Brittany left Chicago, Illinois and entered the Milwaukee job corps center.
Brittany’s goals were to obtain her high School diploma and complete a trade. Brittany notes that she dropped out of high school and in her words, “she was unmotivated.” Brittany entered the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) trade and obtained her High School diploma. She soon learned that the program had a lot more to offer her in her personal growth and development. She became a dorm leader and class room Ambassador. She states that she discovered “who she was,” and “who she could be.”

After graduating from the Milwaukee Job Corps Center in August 2012, she was able to secure full time employment at Brown’s Living Life Quest, a mental health facility in Milwaukee. Brittany states that the most valuable life lesson she learned in job Corps was “Be Patient, as patience is a virtue.” Brittany’s patience paid off as she attended the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and will be attending Milwaukee area Technical College where she will be pursuing a degree in Nursing. One day she hopes to start her own business.
Her advice to other young people is “stay focused, remember you can do and never give up.” Brittany continues to live by her own advice.
