Muhlenberg Friends of Freedom Fighters

On October 13, 2014, at the all staff and student assembly, the Muhlenberg Job Corps Friends of Freedom Fighters Club had the opportunity to present their first care package to student Robert Harris. The club was developed to send care packages and letters to Job Corps completers who advance into a military branch of service. The Friends of Freedom Fighters Club hosts many events such as bake sales and jean days to support their club efforts. Harris successfully completed the Construction Equipment Mechanics program at the Center and has obtained placement with the Army.

At the assembly, U.S. Army Recruiter, SSG Hector Santos Rivera, recognized Harris with an Army Promotion Certificate for completing the Training Cycle Training which requires future soldiers to recruit others, complete sixteen online classes tailored to basic training, and pass the Army Physical Fitness Test. By doing so, this allowed Harris to be promoted from Private (PVT) to Private-2 (PV2) before shipping to basic training. The recruiter states that only about 10% of all future soldiers complete these tasks. After this assembly the Muhlenberg Job Corps Friends of Freedom Fighters increased their enrollment by fifteen students the following day. Military Placement is one of the many employment options for a Job Corps graduate.

The Muhlenberg Job Corps Center serves disadvantaged youth ages 17-24. They obtain vocational skill training they need to be successful in their chosen career.
