Muhlenberg Job Corps CEM Class Visits Kentucky Dam

David Whittinghill’s  Construction Equipment Mechanic’s class visited the Kentucky Dam at Grand Rivers, Kentucky.  The dam is 206 feet high with over one half of it submerged under water.  It is 8,422 feet long and was completed in 1944 at a cost of 118 million dollars.  Kentucky Dam has a generating capacity of 223,100 kilowatts of hydro-electricity.  It has 24 spillways and moves 1,050,000 cubic feet of water per second.  The class was given a complete tour of the facility.  How Kentucky Dam produces “Green Energy” was discussed with the group.  MCDCs Construction Equipment Mechanic’s classes make frequent visits to the dam each year.
